My First Blog! + Kaito Luv/Vocaloid Talk XD
November 28th, 2008Hey everyone! Welcome to my new personal blog! XD Yes, it’s hard to believe, but I originally wanted to embed this into the main page of my website to allow people to comment on my new updates, but sadly it seems like it cannot be done unless I alter the Wordpress pages to look like all my other pages or build my site around Wordpress (and I just don’t have the time for all that…=_=) So now I’ll be using this page to post my more personal and in-depth entries, even ones concerning the new updates. Feel free to comment as you please whenever you want! ^^ I’ll be using the main page just for a simple list of content I updated, rather than write details about it. So this will be where my more detailed and more personal entries are located from now on. If you’re interested, then you know where to stop by next time. ^^
I guess I added another workload to myself rather than make things simpler (ANOTHER page to update frequently). XD But I’ll provide a quick link to here from the main page to make it easily accessible. I apologize for the inconvenience of making you have to go to another page to read these entries, but who knows, maybe it’s a good place to talk about more personal and random things. XD
Speaking of random, I absolutely adore the chibi Nendroid vocaloid Kaito figure in the picture above. X3 If you haven’t heard of vocaloids before, they are a vocal synthesizing software in Japan that is made up of several character mascots that each have a distinctive singing voice. The user inputs lyrics and music into the program and the vocaloid will do the singing. ^^ They use real voice samples of Japanese voice actors to create their distinctive sounds, but sometimes it might be apparent that it’s sung by a program. However, I think the songs the fans make are really neat. Many draw their own pictures, which look really wonderful how they match with the songs most of the time.
The first vocaloid, Miku Hatsune, seems like an extremely popular character in Japan now. I think it’s even starting to hit it big in other countries, including the US. And I’m assuming since they released a nendroid of Kaito, it means that he’s becoming very well liked now too. ^^ His program was released after the “twin” vocaloids (girl and boy) Kagamine Rin and Len, both which are also adorable. XD I’m still not sure if they are officially twins or they were made to dress alike, but I heard rumors that they aren’t actually “twins.” But when I first found out and confirmed Len was actually a boy, I was completely obsessed with him, XD and STILL am as well for Kaito too. XD Recently they also released a new vocaloid named Gakupo Kamui, which Gackt (Yes, THE famous artist Gackt) lent his voice and stage name for. XD The design for the vocaloid was actually quite shocking too. o_o I also that heard some Japanese bloggers found humor in the design as well. XD I think this page will explain itself. XD LINK
The vocaloids also each have their own “signature” item that they are frequently seen holding in the videos. I’m not sure if this was decided by the fans or the creators. But for example, Miku is the leek, Len is the banana, Gakupo is an eggplant, and Kaito is icecream. XD Because there are many Kaito videos showing him chibi-style eating or singing about “aisu” or icecream, that’s when my love started growing for him. XD Not to mention he is so loyal and attached to his “Master,” it just adds to the cuteness. XD (You’ll find a video of it below) I also totally have a thing for blue haired characters, XD so he has to be my favorite out of the others as of now (Len being right next to him of course!). ^^ On a side note, I even had to pre-order the Kaito nendroid figure, because it is just too adorable. XD
At first, I knew absolutely nothing about vocaloids and was oblivious to them until I started seeing a character with turquoise hair in pigtails holding a leek roaming around the web. XD Miku videos were all over the place on Youtube too, so I decided to see what all the “rave” was about one day and I ended up being completely obsessed with them. XD However, I didn’t get into Kaito until after a while after, because his voice seemed a bit more “program/robot-like” compared to Miku. (I’m thinking male voices are harder to program and edit. o_o) But afterwards, I actually slowly started to like him more and more when I got to listen to more of his songs and see more videos of him, and NOW I’m just completely obsessed. He is totally a special character to me now. XD There are many other characters in the vocaloid series, some less popular ones that may be either fan-made or unofficial releases. But it’s a very interesting world of neat looking characters, cool songs and lots of fun that you may also get into as well if you give them a listen. ^^
There are many videos of vocaloids on YouTube, which are mostly videos from ‘Nico Nico Douga,’ a popular Japanese site where fans upload videos just like on YouTube. They will all range in quality depending on how well the person edited it with the software. Some songs may be really well done, while some others are more like experiments. Some are accompanied by just an image while others are fan-animated with drawings or made with CG. I highly recommend checking them out! ^^
Here are some of my favorite Vocaloid videos ^^

It’s so hard to pick my real big favorites, but I hope you get an idea for how these vocaloids sound now. ^^
Next summer, I’m planning to cosplay Kaito for the Anime Next convention. XD It’s the first time I have purchased a custom-made outfit for a cosplay, so I hope it actually fits well. XD Sorry about my extremely long rambling about vocaloids, but I just had to share with you what my current obsession was. XD
I’ll hopefully post a new entry here about more personal ramblings again soon. XD I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving dinner (I sure did XD) and I hope to get more updates put up for AFA soon! Thanks so much for taking the time to read all this and see you guys all again soon! ^^
